Inspire Network Programme

The Inspire Curatorial Network was created by Arts Council England (London) as an adjunct to its Inspire Fellowship Programme. The Fellowship Programme places talented, aspiring ‘ethnic minority’ curators who might benefit from a structured introduction to the museum and gallery sector. To date 18 people have been granted 2-year fellowships – 9 in 2005 and 9 in 2006. (See Inspire/ACE website for further details on the Inspire Fellowships). The Network serves as a catch-pool for talented applicants to the Fellowship Programme who could not be accommodated within the restricted availability of places.

inIVA was approached by ACE (London) to take on the Network Programme from 2006. Colin Prescod, Inspire Network Course Curator and Teresa Cisneros-Ledda, inIVA Education Curator, currently develop this Network Programme for inIVA

At its core the Network Programme offers its members a learning course led by professionals in the curatorial field, artists and significant figures in contemporary arts and museums. It is inIVA’s hope to create a course ‘with extras’ – demystifying the realities of the heritage sector, providing skills trailing and professional development advice, and critically engaging Network members with contemporary curatorial issues.  Additionally, networking opportunities are a central element of the programme, both on-line and off-line, through dedicated events and a website. And Network members also receive on-going professional development and advice from the course curators and relevant professionals associated with inIVA’s more general work.

The current Network course, Winter 2006 to Spring 2007, is already in process. And it is anticipated that the Network course will attain accreditation in the coming year, through partnership with Birkbeck University.
